Breed help PICS (renamed)

Hi. I just had my Muscovy duck-loving ten year old daughter look at the photo. She said she definitely thinks it's a Muscovy (we're raising some ducklings with that same eye stripe), then she said it's good you're taking it, because the cage looks awful!

If it's not, you can have a couple of ours...love 'em all, but we have plenty! We did the same thing awhile back, to avoid too much inbreeding.

Well, I'm off to go pick up rescue duckling a day early.

Okay, so rescue ducky is here. And tiny, at least to my eyes. She swears he's 3 weeks old. Looks muscovy, has VERY sharp little claws.

The sweetest thing. Sitting on my shoulder right now.

He's about 1/3 the size of my smallest muscovy so I am not going to be putting him outside yet unsupervised. So, needless to say, I scrambled to get everything set up for him inside. I guess I am going to turn into one of those cuddly holding duck people.

Question, how do you keep them from pecking at your eyes when they are on your shoulder? And how young is too young for a diaper?

Oh, what did I get myself in to?

So, is this a muscovy? With all of the climbing its doing, I would think so. Up my shoulder down my arm back up on to the top of the couch.

For those of you that had singles, how often do you put them up to eat etc? If I put him in the crate he peeps constantly. He is also making some very interesting leaps up onto the bars of the crate. Positively acrobatic.

My youngest (who spoils every duckling she can get ahold of), laughed and said "Oh yeah, that's a Muscovy...it'll peep until you take it out and cuddle it some more. They like lots of attention!"

Thanks. I keep referring to it as he and I hope its a girl so, SHE made it through the night. I put her in the crate in an extra bedroom with a stuffed toy and she quieted down pretty quickly. I figure I will follow the day and night hours outside. When it gets dark, its off to bed. She has a heat lamp since she is so small.

Is she really 3 weeks? Just starting to get tail feathers. I thought she would be bigger.
