Breed help!!!!!!!!

We took in two hens(?) From a not so great situation but know nothing about them. They came with 4 chicks, three chicks and one adult only made it about 24hours. This adult is soposed to be a 1 year old hen. Any ideas on breed? I don't think it is laying.
