Breed Help

Would you please post a photo of Pearl  head on, she does have a bit of red(comb?) on top of beak - would like to see full extent.   Also in two photos the side view of Buff Orp? shows the head looking odd like it was shaved down or  maybe  a mixed buff orp.

Will take more pics of Pearl tomorrow:

MJ below. Lots of these chicks were pecked almost bald when we brought them home:

Pearl does seem to be a male to me. The reason for not crowing- is Harvey. In the presence of an Alpha rooster, males lower in pecking order will not crow. If they crowed they would be attacked by the alpha roo. This is why Harvey mounts Pearl to assert his dominance, as flock leader. Pearl wouldn't dare mount him.

Harvey does not mount Pearl. He mounts mama hen.

Since you were given all the chicks with a broody, and they're all over the place as far as look, they're all barnyard mixes. no "breed".

The white bird (Pearl?) is indeed male. Females simply do not get those saddle or hackle feathers.

He should have some of a comb. It may be a flat rose type, none of the pics are close enough. But he's definitely male. Weather he "should" be crowing or mating now doesn't really matter. If he's slow to develop, there's not much you can do about it.

GG is probably an Easter Egger pullet. Mary Jane is probably a Buff Orpington mix pullet. Pearl is a mixed breed cockerel, possibly with Columbian Wyandotte or Easter Egger in him. Harvey (as you know) is also a cockerel.

Harvey is being rehomed tomorrow. Pearl is very timid and does not crow. Will Pearl also become aggressive in time/once Harvey isn't around?

Possibly...or Pearl is simply a more relaxed rooster.

I had 2 Barnevelder chicks that turned out to be roos. Both from the same hatchery (though not likely siblings, but same strain).

One was a snot the other is my lovely little gentleman that is now a beloved guardian of my flock.

So it really depends on personality of the rooster.

Pearl may also simply be undeveloped yet and not quite to the crazy hormone stage, so his personality may change yet....but being laid back now is a good sign.

Appreciate the feedback. Since my post Pearl has turned into a mini Harvey. Both will be rehomed tomorrow. They are my prettiest chickens and I will miss them. It's the best choice for our situation.
