Breed ID please?

Plus, BSL are egg laying machines! If that's what you got them for, you won't be disappointed! Mine were also much more social and vocal than the others in the flock.

Hi Enola,

Thanks for the correction. Are they white as chicks? I had heard that the pullets were black and the cockerels were white so that you could tell them apart with no problem.

At any rate, the grown pullets should be black with the shading and that's what I see in the picture Ordinary Acres was asking about :-).

You may be thinking of red sex links. Red sex link pullet chicks are, well, reddish and the cockerel chicks are white. Black sex link pullet chicks are solid black and black sex link cockerel chicks are black with a white spot on the head.

OK, well we picked out ten chicks. Three that had white on them did turn out to be the Barred Rocks, and for some lucky reason I picked 7 solid black ones, not knowing they were NOT going to be barred rocks. I obviously didn't realize what I was getting as the tub was labeled Barred Rock.

Fingers Crossed

Well, the BSL are a cross between RIR and BR birds, so you got barred rocks by proxy! :-)
