Hi
I’m new to chicken ownership and require some assistance in identifying these 2 hens. Sorry about the photos, the grey hen kept moving. I have seen her lay a light small cream egg of that helps. The black one I have not seen lay as yet and I’m not even sure if she is laying yet.
The person I bought them from I think was a little confused herself. She mentioned araucanas and also australorp. I thought perhaps the grey one might be a blue cuckoo maran??

Thank you

Yep, both easter Eggers. The black one almost looks like an ameraucana except for the small amount of red feathers around her head. A true ameraucauna wouldn't have that little bit of red.

The grey one is a legbar mix (the little tuft of feathers on the head gives it away). She's probably a mix of mixes, the little beard probably comes from ameraucana ancestry. She could be part marans, my guess is they were going for olive colored eggs and marans are often used to make olive Eggers. She is not barred, not sure why the blue color is so uneven. The lighter colored feathers do look a bit ragged compared to the darker ones so maybe some molting going on there.
