Just wondering. Are all roosters pretty noisy? Or are they different (like just about all things! hahah)? Is it a personality thing? A situational thing? Or are there breeds that are normally more noisy or less noisy?

LOL! The stuffed ones made by Beanie baby!

Some people say smaller breeds crow less, some say bigger breeds crow less. It really depends on the roo, his age and the environment he's in. I have bantam and LF roos who ALL go off about an hour before down then gradually die down after dawn. All of them still let loose the occasional crow through the day.

My least crower was a HUGE LF Cochin roo that didn't make a sound until he was almost a year old then rarely crowed at all. But he was also SUPER agressive towards people despite many attempts to convinve him it was a bad idea. He ended up burrito filling.

My noisiest roos were a pair of Dutch bantams brothers who freakin' never shut UP!!! All day and in the middle of the night. They went away too.

Right now I have 1 LF EE roo and 5 adult bantam roos. The noiseist of that lot is an Old English.

Well I can't tell about any quiet ones---

However, I can tell you that Stewie my sicilian buttercup rooster is the most crowinest thing I ever did hear, all night, all day, every day, hot, cold, winter, summer, daylight or dark he goes off about every 30 minutes. Except in the morning then he is nearly continuos from daylight to about 1100.

I have had many sizes and breeds and they all do it all the time (Except at night), and loud. I find the bantams to be a bit more shrill, so that might be worse to some people. Now I had an individual roo that was sort of hoarse, therefore much quieter, but all his brothers were as loud as anything (they were Australorpe X Mutts). So it seems to be just a luck of the draw thing, you could always go searching for an adult roo that is already proven to be hoarse if you are desperate I suppose...

I for one enjoy the sound, but if you have ordinances, good luck!
