I've hatched red comets from Whole Foods eggs. They said fertile on the package. Or was it Nature Mart? Anyway, the trick is to get them as fresh as you can, check the 3 digit day they were collected on the carton, that way they've been refrigerated for the least amount of time. Mine were only 1 day old.

Like today is the 127th day of the year. so today's eggs would be 127 or 0127 plus a date on the carton for use by or packaged on. It's the 3 or 4 digit number you are looking for.
