Ello, will be getting my first mini-flock of chickens come spring! So excited! BUT, I am wondering about the breeds... I would prefer something that doesn't lay a TON of eggs, and are their breeds that are generally more even tempered or friendly? Can I get a few breeds and keep them together, I DON'T PLAN ON BREEDING THE CHICKENS

I'm going to start building the coop soon, I'm SO EXCITED! If you have suggestions, Of course I would LOVE pictures!

Of course you can mix different breeds!

I've had over 13 different breeds of hens sharing a pasture before.

I'd say anything you feel like getting is likely going to be a calm, friendly breed with moderate to high egg laying. Just avoid Leghorns, Minorcas, Anconas, and the skinnier type breeds. Also avoid Sex-Links, as they lay a LOT.

Modern Game Bantams are real people friendly, hardy and lay decent. Plus they dont eat much at all.
