Breed suggestions

I asked a similar question about chicken that can handle heat and humidity. Someone posted this "Henderson chicken chart: that had some awesome info and helped me make informed decision: http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html

It
is one of the most informative all in one chart I have ever found. In fact I think it would be an excellent sticky post to put on the front page.

Welcome Dave!

Believe me, you have come to the right place. I'm new and still asking questions, looking for answers and researching breeds, behaviors, feed requirements etc.

I wish that I had discovered this site before I started my chicken adventure but am learning thru others!

In my climate(Alaska.) I have been advised to consider breeds that have a single comb that won't be too susceptible to freezing temps in the winter. I've purchased Golden Comet eggs in my hometown, in the middle of winter and they were graded as X-Lg.

My advice is to explore this forum, explore the many different links and ask questions. I keep a small notepad to jot my questions down. My husband says that raising chickens is surely not a science but in a way, it is a science. I just want/ed to get it right the first time. Everyone here has been so welcoming and so forthcoming with their experiences. Bookmark this site for sure!!
