I purchased a group of chicks from Murdochs yesterday. The bin said buff orpington and aracauna. I picked up three easter eggers, three buff orpingtons and this one that I thought was an Easter egger, but upon closer inspection, I'm not so sure.... It has a single comb not a pea comb.
I'm going to call murdochs tomorrow and see what chicks they've gotten in so far this year and try to figure it out. I think it looks like a copper marans chick from looking at pictures online, but I really don't know. Any ideas? It's kind of fun having a mystery chick.

They get a wide variety of birds at that store. I'd be happy with an australorp. :) I've never had one of those.

I can probably figure it out tomorrow. It would be neat to have a bird that lays darker brown eggs. I have buff and white orpingtons, speckeled Sussex, a silver laced wyandotte, a barred rock and some Patridge rocks. Mine all lay lighter brown eggs. I'm trying the easter eggers again. My last couple only laid 5 eggs a year. They became soup last summer.

Only 5??:th. Let us know when you figure out her breed.

I called murdochs. I think she's a black star. They said the only black chicks they got this last week were silver laced wyandotte and black star. Wyandottes have a pea comb, right? I've never had a black star either. They are really popular where I live. And, Yay! She's for sure a girl!

Wyandottes have a rose comb, and she's for sure not one of them. It's great that she's a female.
