Breed with Personality?

I'm looking to increase my small flock (6 gals) and would like to know which breed has best temperament (personality) and good egg laying inclinations.

I was looking for very similar traits before I ordered my chicks this month. I settled on Speckled Sussex and Buff Orpingtons.

I think Australops are the ones the with best personality. I had one that I raised from incubation and she would follow me everywhere like a dog..Lost her to weasels.. Miss Little Bit so much!!

EE's are sweet! They lay greenish eggs. They have chipmunk cheeks and look like adorable birds of prey!

not sure about the laying but the speckled sussex has the sweetest personality of all mine.they are only 10 wks.

Ha ha - you'll get a dozen different opinions on this question. For one person, their EE is the best hen they ever had. For the next person, THEIR EE was a little demon. Somewhat like cats, chickens seem to have varying personalities regardless of breed. For me, my friendliest little girl is my Plymouth Rock. I have actually heard many other people also talk about how much they love their PR (although I'm sure there are others who have not had good experiences with theirs).

The first Barred Rocks that I got from McMurray were she devils.

I now have a Privett Barred Rock that is the sweetest thing on the planet.... loves to be held, lays every day. Just a sweet personality.

From the reading I have done, I ordered Speckled Sussex and Black Australorps for eggs and great personality.
