Breed with Personality?

If you were to order Speckled Sussex I do not think you would be disappointed. I have also had great success with my gold/red sex-links. They seem to be a sensible breed that lays nice sized eggs regularly(daily for the most part).

Our two Barred Rock layers have been the breed with the most personality in our flock. The same goes for our chicks out of the three breeds. EE, RIR, and the BR's.

My favorites over the years have been cochin bantams--they are not only comical in appearance, but mild mannered and personable in general and some can be real characters. One likes to imitate voices and dogs barking, pretty much like a parrot.

I also have a silver Ameraucana bantam that I think has a sense of humor and certainly has quite a high opinion of herself.

From what I can tell, the more you handle them from day one the more personality they will have. All six (all different breeds) of our girls have a lot of personality, but they were handled almost non stop by my 4 kids to the point that I don't even think they know they are chickens. They were put into LEGO houses, taken for bike rides, carried around the yard like they were dolls, brought in to watch cartoons, etc.

Our most friendly are our Red Sex Links and EE's, but we also have held and played with them since they were babies. My son used to drive them around on his little Gator...until it broke...now they have to settle for wagon rides.

I also our EE rooster is nice but protects his women.

To the OP, I adore my BRs from Ideal. They both are very sweet, curious, brave girls. They are dependable layers and always come near to be pet and talked to
