Breed?

Yes that one is a black cockeral ....I have 2 hens that are same breed lol ..( black marans) ..the 3
The one on the right in that last photo is not pure for Marans.. UNLESS his comb is actually straight and I just can't make out the points in the photo due to angle... plus legs look kind of yellow, which also would not be a Marans trait.

Just for discussion, because I enjoy a good mystery. :)

ETA: it can take not less than 2 but up to 3-4 weeks after separation before fertility is purified.

I actually would not be surprised I bought 6 and already gave 3 away as were cockerals....now looking again earlier I think I still have 2 more cockerals and they were a to be hens !

So you DID see the creepy crawly critters?

Best to use proven effective treatment (permethrin 10) as prolonged infestations can literally kill the birds.
D. Earth has not been proven effective on treating.....well anything. It is very harsh on the lungs of the birds, and the people. It becomes airborne very easily as the birds scratch around. It floats on the breeze and decimates bee hives.

The coop needs fully cleaned out and sprayed with the permethrin as well being certain to get in the nooks and crannies.

I apologize if how I worded it sounds harsh....it is NOT intended that way.

Over the years I have seen many threads by folks having attempted to treat with "other methods" often the DE and come here after the birds are starting to die. I don't want you to be one of them.

Please don't beat yourself up about what you didn't know or realize. You cam here looking for help and I'm sure you will do your very best going forward! We all start our learning adventure somewhere and now you're well on your well on your way to helping your flock have their very best life possible.. to the best of YOUR ability.. and hopefully also be able to share your collected experience and knowledge to help others as well! :)

DE is completely ineffective at my location due to high humidity. Also extremely drying to already angry skin.

I know they no longer use carbaryl in the US, brand name Sevin, would be effective. It's always interesting for me to see how things work in other countries and if we get a good known method down for you I will try to bookmark it for reference.

I know one of local peeps.. bathes her birds in a solution of dish soap and vinegar, she swears works but I have not personally tried.. Which.. dish soap helps break the surface of water.. and vinegar when I use it to rinse my strawberries dries out the leaves immensely.. plus acidity helps breaks down calcium, which I am unsure if it has any relevance to helping defeat any egg structure that's there??

Walmart here also sells a product called Poultry protector that MIGHT work..

Good job, being diligent to find out what's going on and following through! Keep up the good efforts! :highfive:
