Breeder line question??

Question on when or whose line it is.
If you buy eggs from lets say John Doe, he was the breeder of his line of chickens. So your eggs are from his line. The chicks produced from the eggs are they first gen from his line or?
So if you raise up the chicks and sell eggs from your chickens that came from his eggs. How would you advertise them as 2ND gen from his line?
And when would it become your line or would it?
And if you introduce a new line into his is this then your line?
Hope this makes sense because its got me.

dont know but i think its the same as with hunting dogs.. like mine are from a line called branko cross with white river.. even though the lines are cross there are still only pure breeder lines

I consider it "your line" after the 4th generation. Because at that point, without your own knowledge of what the breed should look like, you could have either destroyed the original line, or you could have bettered it.

Either way...it's your cookie at that point.

Adding another line can completely destroy a line. SO...I try not to mix lines...
