Hi there! My name is Sammie... Greetings from Northwest Ohio...

I have been raising Chickens for a year now and finally bought some rubber boots to give my dress shoes a break from the chicken poo. My four year old daughter has decided that our chickens are pirates. if she cannot find something, the chickens have obviously stole it. She even dances and sings to a funny pirate chicken song she wrote. The only lyrics are "Pirate Chickens..."

I have (all separated by breed):

A pair of Ameraucanas (The rooster, Steve, is BEAUTIFUL! I can't believe it!), however, I raised them as gifts for my mother. This week they will go to their new home (which is only a hop, jump, and short skip from my house anyways).

A pair of standard Barred Cochins. Rooster's name is Belvis. Hen is un-named at this time.

A pair of bantam birchen Cochins (BEAUTIFUL!) both are un-named.

A pair of Bantam D' Anvers. Their names are Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie is quail. Clyde seems to be a mix of colors. These were rescues. They were in a horrible state when I spotted them at an auction. There were originaly three. But within a day of getting them home the smallest hen died. Malnourished. I built a rustic cage out of old windows and barn siding. I trimmed it with fancy wood work and laid tile inside to make cleaning and sanitation a breeze. These two chickens lived in my home through the winter. They had one offspring, who was born on Valentines Day. My daughter named this chick "Sugar," however, I named it "Jacob the Liar" from Robin Williams movie. Why? The silkie chicks can't see the outside world. Their only known thoughts about the world is that it is a boring blue rubber maid tub. Jacob sits on top of the feeder in the rubbermaid tub, peers out of the hole on top, and tells them myths about the outside world (my bedroom) to keep their morale up.

Two Silkie Hens. One is a black bearded lady, her name is Tina Turner (My boyfriend named her). The other one is mix bred. She looks amazing but does not have the right comb. GORGEOUS little show-girl.

A quartet of Bantam Partridge Wyandottes.... I am not a fan at all of partrige, but WOW, this guy and girls STOLE my heart they are so beautiful.

I also have two pairs of BEAUTIFUL Ameraucana Bantams I am trying to sell. WOW! They are stunning. Young too.

Lastly I have one other Birchen rooster who does not have a wife I will sell eventually....

Ooooops... Wait! There is ONE more, and he breaks my heart:

A lonely Cornish rooster. He was given to me for free. I have no intentions on eating him. But no intentions on keeping him either. He has the world's funniest crow. His name is Sweeney Todd, because he is so lonely. And he does sing... Just not the world's greatest voice... It sounds as if he is being strangled when he does it.

In regards to myself:

I am a mother of two children. I went to college and have a degree in social work. Currently I am laid off of work. I am in the process of converting a metal shed into a coop to extend living quarters. I am doing this with recycled wood from pallets and barn siding I pick up in my truck for free. I LOVE to recycle and repurpose! It looks neat so far!

Please feel free to visit my youtube link. I have chickens in those videos somewhere, including one of my CUTE show-girl silkie mix.

The video with my chicks from last year is called "My Spring."

Also last year I rescued a blind blue cochin rooster and hen. I no longer have them as I learned what they had was contagious. Thank goodness they were located far off on the other side of my 3.11 acres. I have a funny video on them called "Dear Dairy I am Sick."

My intentions are to move to only standard and bantam cochins and my bantam partridge Wyandottes.

I am in love with nature. Trees. Rocks. Moss. Lichen. Native habitats, prairie restoration, sustainability, ecomanagement, learning the constellations as I camp in the back of my truck under the stars.

I look forward to visiting this site as often as I can.
