Does anyone know of breeders that specialize in dark brown egg layers (Welsummers, Barnevelders etc.) We are looking for breeds that lay dark brown eggs. From our research, we have heard that Welsummers, Marans, and Barnevelders produce dark brown eggs. Are their any other breeds that we're missing. Thank you!

You're missing Penedesencas, Empordanesas and some lines of Langshans.

Most Barnevelders have had the dark gene bred out of them (same for langshans) but there are still a few.

This is one of the dark egg line of Barnevelder I know of but there are probably other good ones.

Many lines of Welsummers have nice eggs. I got mine from Sandhill and their eggs are very dark but I know there are lots of good breeders of wellys.

Penedesencas come in 4 colors. The Black is the only DP color.
I have black penedesencas but they're extremely rare as are Empordanesas.
There is also a yahoo group for dark egg layers
