I have 4 Silkies that I bought as a show prospect, actually 2 are beautiful and now I would like to breed them. I had NO intention of doing this in the beginning but people are asking sooooo...

Problem

I don't have a Rooster!

I breed show dogs and know how that works how do you find a rooster "stud" for a breeding program??
NO LAUGHING!!!

I just want to breed them to a nice rooster and keep the look I like and have some quality Silkies...
Anyone know how to go about this?

Post an ad in BST - Chickens to see if you can find one. There are also some great roosters posted on eggbid all of the time. Most folks will ship silkies, but maybe you'll get lucky and find one close to home. You didn't mention what color you're looking for, but you'll want to post that in your ad as well as the quality of bird you are seeking. Be sure to ask for pics so you can make a good decision on your selection.

Good luck in your search.

Beth, have you asked on the NC Poultry2 list?

Quality Silkies are not always easy to breed and raise. Lots of fluff and low egg production. Research, research, research.
Have fun on your adventure!

I have a splash. I was thinking about going on the ASC list to see if anyone was around me.....
I had her shipped from MI and I was a wreck the whole time..

You would be best off not breeding splash x splash. Too many generations with this crossing leads to washed out coloring. You would be much better off finding a black or blue male.

black x splash = 100% blue
blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
splash x splash = 100% splash

I agree, check on eggbid, there are often some very nice birds for sale there.
