Awesome!!!!!!!! Glad to hear!!! :D

OMG. I will never hatch at the beginning of winter again, unless I'm hatching for someone else...lol I do hope to be able to do an Easter hatch, but I really want to find good quality show girl eggs for it. If not than I probably will get another couple barnyard mixes and see what I get. Then about the time they are hatching I will be finishing the coop and run and these guys will be headed for the great outdoors and brooders will be free.

Yeah I understand I do like those show girls too

Can anyone tell me what the value of 4 week old straight run mix breeds should be? I've got a pile of em. Wondering what to sale them for? Been trying to give them away to friends with no luck. What's the best avenue to peddle these things?

What type of mixes?

That was another reason I decided to wait - I won't be starting on my bigger coop/run until April-May in anticipation for the first batch of ordered chicks. All these good reasons to wait & I'm still having a struggle to wait! XD

Total newbie question: what are show girls, in regards to chickens? Is that a breed or just hens that have been in shows?

Showgirl is a naked neck and silkie, but it takes a good ten generations to get them to look real fluffy and pure.

That's a showgirl pic from google.

That is a fabulous looking bird right there, holy smokes. I was thinking of getting a silkie because my mom likes how they look, but maybe I might try to find a showgirl instead!

A couple weeks ago a local was giving away a silkie roo and a quality showgirl roo. I was wishing my coop was ready so bad. You could tell he was a multi generation show girl roo. Nice and fluffy and everything. She said she was just getting into breeding them so I told her if she had any eggs come March she wanted to sell let me know. If not we are going to get a group together and order some chicks this spring. I have a turken and a silkie, but my silkie is mixed so the black isn't extremely dark, and like I said, it takes generations to get them that nice and fluffy. They say 10+ gen. But I want some sooo bad...lol

I came into chickens by accident - my rooster just showed up on my grandparents' front porch about mid-October. We couldn't find his owner so I decided to take care of him. Before him, I had zero idea that chickens came in so many varieties! The colours, sizes, feather type, it all surprised me. In the rural area I grew up/live in, everyone just had the standard white chickens. The past couple of months have been a huge learning experience.
