I'm about to enter my first show in a couple of weeks

and I feel like a kid again -- I'm very nervous . I've picked what I feel is my best from my partridge pen and read and reread the APA Standard -- for partridge silkie color -
What is my biggest fear ? embaressment of a DQ - I know it's about learning so it doesn't happen again - but if I can get it right the first time I really would perfer it

. So here's the Roo . What do you think ? And I really want to know what you think from a breeder of Sq partridge silkies point of view . I know he is a handsome boy but would you as a breeder of Sq partridge silkies keep and use him in your breeding pens ? And when I write in variety on coop tag do I just put partridge or do I have to put color of partridge ?

I haven't found any DQ's on him but am concerned a little about his breast color -- it clearly states -- ( Breast : Lusttrous , greenish black ). Everything else is about him seems on point . Can someone that raises SQ partridge show me -- us a pic of what a partridge that fits the standard looks like please ? ? Thank you ~~ Tammy

Partridge is my FAVORITE color, though I do breed & show alot of other colors. Yes--the SOP states the chest should be black, and that's very difficult to come by---I know, because I've been trying for years and finally have one. Your boy looks good

didn't see any pics of his toes, but I've known judges that don't even count the number of toes....

I'm going to try & post a pic of my Partridge roo Spartacus. I've shown him quite a few times and he always wins BV. The greatest compliment I've ever received came from Suze--Sonoran Silkies--about his black chest (meant more to me than any judges c

omment ever did).

I took a couple of pics of his feet the pics aren't all that good .( my fault used a flash and didn't need it ) He does have all his toes and feathering on his feet is good -- I really don't know how some of the birds I've seen keep such long full beautiful foot feathering . i keep all my silkies on nice thick shavings but they never have that really exceptional feathering except when they are really young

I can totally understand what you are saying about sonoran .
I am always very gratefull to her for all of her help . I have so much respect for her and I've never met her in person .

Now if I may ask a couple of breeding questions ? I was adviced to breed him to a lighter hen . I was thinking of putting him with the hen in my avtar and her sister . But that wouldn't help in getting my partridge black chests . Wouldn't I want to pair him with hens that have dark chests ? Thank you so much for your help ~~ Tammy

Thank you -- I wouldn't have even given that a thought

-- I want to also put my hen in my avatar in - now she would be an AOV right ? How do you put them on the coop card ? just as partridge or would I put blue partridge ? Do shows send you these before the show or do you get them the day of the show ? I also have colored leg bands on my birds that I understand but I don't have any other type of bands even though i'm a member of ASBC and ABA do you need to have leg bands on that tell them this ? I know this is really the kinda stuff most people know but I really never was sure if I wanted to show -- so I didn't learn that kind of information when I went to a couple of local shows to see what was around . We don't really have the kind of shows here that most have . But with encouragement from my OH I decided to step out and give it a try . Thank you soooooo much for all the help and advice . ~~Tammy

You would enter her variety-Bearded Blue Partridge. They will place her in a cage at the end of the row somewhere near the last regular color. They will have a list of the standard colors, so don't worry. She will be judged against the other AOV's there. You might want to ask the secre. upon checkin, to have the judge pick Best & Resevre AOV. The silkie club is trying to record the AOV's for the club. Any Bands you have on are fine, Judges just look past them. I use ABA bands & zip ties. Never had a judge complain yet. Just make sure the poop is off of the bands & they are clean. Poop like sto hide under them! lol The coop cards are at the show with your info on them. Just go find the check in table, find out your exhibitor #, find the silkies, walk down till you see your # on the cage for the color you have. Pop your bird in, Give a drink & some feed. Then go look around, talk & have fun!

II can't answer as a breeder of Partridge Silkies but I can answer as an APA General Licensed Judge: Nice chicken!

I have the entry form and was trying to fill it out , but I think I confused myself somewhere
