Hello everybody, yesterday I found out that I have a silkie rooster. I have 4 silkies that are around twelve weeks old and 9 layers. I have a barred rock, barred rock bantam, buff Orpington, two RIR, americauna, Red Cross, polish, and houdan. My family and I really want chicks but don't want to have an incubator and when a hen goes broody have her raise them. I was wondering if it was possible if a silkie rooster would successfully mate with one of the large breeds.

Ok. Thank you. Also if you separate one of the large hens and the roo is there a higher chance than if you kept him with the whole flock.

Hello and welcome to BYC

It is possible, but why do you want to breed with him and the larger breeds?

Well we love our silkies and our barred rocks so I was just wondering if we could. We like different looking chickens.

My little sultan mounts my large silver laced wyandottes and mates with them. I haven't hatched out any of those eggs to see what they would look like. I am sure your silkie would be able to mate with everyone as long as she lets him. Good luck
