Hello everyone
Long time no see
I have started breeding Jersey Woollies- I have 2 does, a black (will talk about this one later) and a blue. I also have a lilac (maybe blue/still trying to figure this out) Netherland dwarf x Jersey woolly buck, which I've been breeding to my lilac doe to get denser coated babies... The 2 litters she has had were gorgeous- 3 lilacs and 3 blues, and were all able to find homes as pets. However, I'm getting interested in the BEW coloured rabbits and have found a male which I would like to adopt.
I have been doing my research, and I read I shouldn't breed BEW to lilac or chocolate rabbits because it can cause a purplish colour in the eyes, not blue. So, I have my black doe. BUT, she has one white leg/stripe coming up her leg into her neck. I thought she was broken, but she only has that one white part. Is it possible that she is Vienna marked? If she was and I bred her to the BEW buck, I would get BEWs in the litter, but what would happen if she wasn't Vienna marked and just broken? I haven't got a picture of her now but I have uploaded a photo from the internet of what they look like (both does). The photo similar to my black doe is of a lionhead buck, said to be Vienna marked. She looks exactly like this.
any help would be appreciated

I have never seen a broken that is marked like that - brokens with just a little bit of white are a bit more symmetrical; they usually just have white on the paws, and it tends to be more than one leg. I have had a lot of Harlequins that had the Dutch genes putting white on them, and that is a possibility with your doe. However, I think that her being Vienna-marked is pretty likely. If she is, when bred to a BEW buck, some of her babies will be VM, but you should get some BEW's,too. If she isn't VM, all of the babies will either be VM or VC.

thanks for your help! I another question- if I bred a Vm to a Vm or Vc, could I get BEW babies in the litter? Because I may not be able to get th male BEW, he may not be avaliable anymore. However,I have on hold a Vienna jersey woolly boy with blue eyes, but he is not white. He is white/gray vienna marked. If i were to breed this gray/white vienna marked blue eyed boy with my black vienna marked doe (who hasnt got blue eyes?) what would i get? thanks

Bunnylady, since you are so helpful I have another question: my lilac girl had a litter of 6 babies a few months ago and this was one of the kits:

She was definately not vienna but I would just like to know what you would call this kind of colour? Broken? She also had these babies:
700

was i correct: starting from the left- lilac, 2 blue, mother (blue), 2 blue, lilac? and then there is my black doe pictured :)
i also have this photo which i was able to get today of my black doe:

There are two genes that tend to cause markings like that; the Vienna gene and the Dutch genes. Vienna marked rabbits have markings that are often very similar to Dutch rabbits; some folks used to call them "pseudo Dutch." There are a lot of rabbits carrying genuine Dutch genes, sometimes unseen, but usually as just a little bit of white on the nose and/or feet.

A lopsided blaze like your one baby has frequently is a clue that you may be looking at a Vienna marked rabbit; while Dutch isn't perfectly symmetrical, it is often pretty close.

Broken is another gene entirely. A broken rabbit typically has color on the ears, color around the eyes, color on its nose, and some color on the body. The belly is usually white, as are the feet. Sometimes, you can get a broken with a lot of color and very little white, but they usually look like this guy:

If you look closely, you can see a small mark between this rabbit's eyes, this is typically where facial white shows up on these "booted" brokens. All four of this rabbit's feet are white, which is why they are often referred to as "booted "
