I'm not sure which breeds to use to breed for broiler eggs. I want to have different colors as well just for fun.

You might want to watch these to see how broilers are bred.

Broiler Chicken Videos

It's fairly simple. You spend years and millions of dollars to develop 4 different flocks. Each of those flocks produce one of the grandparents of the broiler. Then you mate the roosters from the maternal grandparent flock to the hens from the maternal grandparent flock, do the same for the paternal flocks to make two more flocks. The offspring from these two flocks are then put together in a 7th flock to lay the eggs for the broilers.

It's not as simple as crossing two breeds to get the broilers. It's taken many years of selective breeding by experts to get them. The commercial egg laying breeds were developed the same way.

You c an get the broiler chicks from a hatchery. Many people do that. Or you can use dual purpose breeds, but these take a lot longer to grow, the breast meat is not as pronounced, and you have to be more careful how you cook it because they are so much older the meat has gotten more texture. I use the dual purpose breeds.

Many people think that the broilers are just crosses between two breeds. I was one of them for a while but it is nowhere near that simple.
