I was so excited to see button quail at an exotic animal auction today, that I had to buy some!! I ended up with 3 trios, (Blue Faced, Smoky, and Cinnamon.) They are seperate, in 3 little cages.

So, I was wondering, if I bred these (with their trios), would I get the same (Blue Faced, Smokey, and Cinnamon), or other colors?

What if I bred them to the other colors? I am so excited to breed these little guys, but dont want COMPLETE mutts....

I was also wondering what 'smokey' was.... I have read that it was a dilute blue face in one place, and that it was a cross of a bunch of colors in a different place......

You probably won't get the same color as the parents. It's possible, but buttons colors are so mixed that it's hard to say what colors they are hiding. The only way to know is by hatching eggs and finding out. You'll probably get some that are the same colors as the parents, but not all.

ETA: Smokey is a mix of blueface and silver I believe, but there might be another color in there as well, I'm not for sure.

The blue face are blue face the one with the white on the wings is a blue face pied. Cinnamon look good looks like you have a pied in there too. Smokey don't look right to me though I am not a a pro with that color I have to look up the males in that color

Okay my guess is the blue face is a mutation with cinnamon. I have to get a better look. It is hard for me to see pictures on this silly phone

Okay here is what Garrie hasto say about Smoky. They are a mutation of blue face, cinnamon, and silver. Has a peculiar mottled shade of the ivory color mixed with that of the slate. Each feather is slightly mottled having both dark and light areas giving the bird the look of smoke
