Breeding chickens

I have recently started breeding chickens and need help. I have many questions so if any one could answer them that would be helpful.
1) How do you keep track of breeding records?
2) What method of breeding do you use( line breeding, rotational line breeding,...)
3) When pairing up chickens how do I know who to pair up with who?
4) Are toe punches or wing bands better for permanent identification?

Hey there, Where are you located at?

1- I use a big calander on the back of the door in the barn.
2- I use a non related roo to start and then line breed with him up to five generations.
3- Be more specific.
4- I prefer colored zip ties.

I'm in Ashtabula county. For question three I want to know when I have ten chickens who to put in each pen. Like if I have five roosters and five hens and I want to pair them up how do I know that rooster A would go best with hen C? Just curious because I have a decent amount of chickens right now and am unsure who goes with which mate. Thank you.

First of all 1 Roo to ten hens is a good ratio. 1 to 1 is going to be brutal on the hens. Pick out your best rooster and only the hens that are up to the standards that you are looking for and isolate and breed them. Keep in mind you should isolate for at least three weeks if you have multiple roo's,hens will continue laying fertile eggs for up to two weeks after no rooster is present.

I won't be breeding in pairs I was just trying to help you understand. I will however be breeding in trios. I'm not too worried about the roosters beating up the hens because my brahma rooster is real gentle with the hens. In fact I have never seen him mate with one of them. He does because I have hatched chicks but as long as I get fertilized eggs I don't care.
