Recently, I purchased a trio of Patridge Wyandotte Bantams at the Northeast Georgia Poultry Fanciers Association Poultry Show. They are beautiful birds. They came from Wisconsin. I am a recently retired elementary educator who would like to try a breeding program. The "simpliest" sounds like mating a Patridge male to Cuckoo females then breeding the best pullets back to their Patridge father to work on breeding Crele Wyandottes. I found this on an article by Andy Vardy. What would I mate with my female Patridge Wyandottes and what would I get? Please simplify. What would I get by just breeding my Patridge Wyandotte Bantams? All advice appreciated!

OK, couple of rules, must post pictures for us to see.........

There is a wyandotte thread where you can get all kind of questions asked. good luck but remember pictures.

I have read several articles about creating Crele in Wyandotte bantams. I think you need to look to Old English and how they created the color varieties they have. One way I read about creating Crele was Crossing Partridge with White. I have seen some birds from this cross before and they are Cuckoo on the verge of Crele. Good thing is you can find great Partridge and Whites to start with so the type would be good to start with.
There are alot of color variations that could be created in Wyandottes but most of them start with having Black Breasted Red as a base. Unfortunately I dont think any BB Red exist. I have a thought in my mind how to create BB Red in Wyandottes again but it is a project for the future....... I am trying to get the WLR and SP back to good numbers first.

Crossing a Partridge rooster to a cuckoo hen would result in black sexlinks, the females wouldnt be cuckoo or carry any copies so it wouldnt work, a better way would be to breed a partridge rooster to cuckoo hens then breed a male from this cross to partridge hens. Are your Partridge Wyandottes patterned or unpattered?
