I have a pair of diamond doves. About a week an a half ago one started the good 'ol bow coo and mounting the other. Then he sits in the nest and makes a CONSTANT low pitch noise. Whenever he's not sitting in the nest making constant noise, hes on the ground doing his bow coo. Honestly, its getting a little obnoxious. I was just wondering how long this will go on? Until the one lays eggs? I'm assuming. But WHEN WILL THAT BE? Why is it taking this long?

Wow, I love the sound of cooing doves! To me its sorta like hearing those water-relazation dvds! My husband has the same view. We've been talking about getting some doves, but so far haven't found any breeders near us or any humane societies in our region that have doves that we could adopt.

They are really sweet birds! And I love their coos too, but man. This whole mating ritual has been going on for SO LONG. I didn't expect this.

For pigeons it takes about 10 days after mating for them to lay eggs. I'm not sure about doves. Never paid attention or heard anyone else comment on it. He sounds like a very dedicated husband!

try seperating, so they cannot see or hear each other or other doves, then re introduce after a week. the female maybe more receptive to lay in a nest with over hang to cover top of nest, and lip or nesting material enough so eggs wont roll out or other added nesting material. like a sideways box big enough for both to fit in comfy, and leave one or two flight feathers in cage, one in nest. my flying flight hens are picky and wait to lay till the nest and courtship are perfect, even after month of mating and courting.

never unfortunately had diamond doves, though my ringnecks took bit to get going and lay, incubate, and rear squeakers, but then once they had the idea and apperantly hang of it, they were some baby raising machines, so watch out you dont get over run quick, and let them take their own timne and make sure theyre in tip top shae and mature enough even. maybe take nest and all out and wait six months at least to a year.
