Breeding ducks?

My male Rouen and female Indian Runner have mated a few times (that I have seen), the problem is that my female has not started to lay eggs yet. I got both of them as babies in march. Will she store the sperm until she starts laying or what? I have seen on line that runners are not very good at sitting on the eggs and if she does lay fertilized eggs I don't want them to die.

I got my ducks in march too and no sign of an egg yet. They should start laying anytime now. The science behind it I'm not sure about but I do know that if you have a female and a male mates her successfully than she can produce fertile eggs for up to 2 weeks.
