BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Apparently it's a commercial duck farm, low path influenza.
Thanks for the update!

Could stop the Muscovy duck program at Hillbilly Heights before it gets off the ground. There was a plan for Ariel and Mitty to drive somewhere in Pa. to pick up 25 duckings since the company will not ship baby ducks to Hillbillies.

That's a joke...there seems to be some problem with sending ducklings to that part of the world because of Postal Problems which on it's face seems absurd. I know a large box of heavy chickens was sent there from South Georgia a while back...I think it took 23 hours from point a. to point b. I'm sure with a little more postage, the same 'first class' flight could be available for the duckies.

That's okay...it will give Jason a good reason to nix ducks, trip and all, at least for this year. One more project is not needed there just now, not that my opinion was asked for or counts for anything. If I had any type of natural water closer than the neighbors pond, I'd order them myself if Brother would pay for them and butcher them. I really love those breasts. Best duck to be had, in my poor opinion.

We get along very well with neighbor...might not hurt to ask. He sorta owes us for helping him out of a right of way situation. The pond is not large, no more than .25 acre. Very easy to build a fence around it and a snug duck house. It does get cold here but not usually anything like WV.

Chicken feeding goes digital!
When you want a break from feeding chores, there's nothing better than digital technology.
I just bought some American Hunter 5-gallon Hanging Bucket Feeders.
The digital timer on this allows you to feed the amount of feed you want, when you want it.
Setting the timer was easy once I got the hang of it.
I did a trial run to see how much feed this thing flung at the 10 second setting. It was about 4 cups, so I backed it off. I will be feeding 2 to 3 times a day. I also do not want the feed flung so I am hanging it over a feed pan and attaching a feed bag around the outside so the feed hits the bag and falls into the feeder.

The stats below are from the website:

  • Durable plastic is weather resistant and will last for years
  • 40-lb. feed capacity
  • Can be set to feed on different days of the week
  • Adjustable feed rate of 1 to 30 seconds
  • Can be programmed to feed 1 to 16 times a day
  • Simple bucket design makes moving it to a different location hassle free
  • Runs on a 6V spring-top lead acid battery (not included)

This interests me. I'll wait for your final assessment.

I think I mentioned on one thread or another that I'll be getting away from BYC ...because it is an addiction and it's causing me problems. I take time from studies (most of my schooling is done on-line) and I get distracted at work, My supervisors really don't mind if I put time on the work puter when dealing with class work but they frown on such "trivial' things as BYC and equate it right up there with PORN! Perhaps I should have said DOWN there???

In any event, I've made a deal with my good friend and primary supervisor that she won't have me drawn and quartered if it's OVER, just as soon as I get back from West Virginia after the weekend of 7/15. We were going to pick up a young Dom. cockerel from a lady right after our business is concluded but Brother Jason asked if it were possible for us to return with him and Ariel to Hillbilly Heights because he has a gift, especially for me. As It turns out, I'm pushing my luck but we are able to do as he asks. I'm certain he's giving me a bird or some birds...Living birds I'm sure because we steal the dead ones (dressed capons) as we please..it's understood.

I want to stick with BYC long enough to show off my new whatever it is before I leave COLD TURKEY and don't really want to come back just to show off a chicken or two. So there you have it!!! By the way...still getting the Dominique cockerel on the way back to KY.
