BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I my self grew up on a 150 acre farm in Ontario Canada 2 1/2 hour drive out side of Toronto we had 140+ rabbits 12 geese 2 horses and 18 Heffer cattle and in one year we lost 10 cows
one to a bad labor and lost in the woods so we couldn't help her
3 to wolves
And the last 6 we found under a tree after a storm the tree was hit by lightning so need last to say my parents went broke and we moved to another house on 3 acres and 3 years later that

Sorry my daughter what's to write to
But that house turned to ash in a fire and we moved to newfoundland where any normal person can't buy anything more than an acre and the forests here have all been clear cut at one time so I am lucky if I can fit a knife in between the trees and no a calm day it is still windy like 30km an hour and that dwarfs all the plants
The sun on this part of the island only shines 90 days a year but with all this I have managed to cut our food bill in half and it may take longer to grow some things like our tomatoes but they taste so much better than the ones at the supermarket same with the chickens
So I got into growing and caring for all kinds of things at a young age and then was forced out of it but I always come back to what I love

How to freak out your husband:

Part 1: Send him a photo of a 4+ foot long Red Racer snake stretched across your aquaponics bed, taking a drink from the water runoff from the bed above it.

Part 2: Tell him the snake went into hiding in the cement block supporting the uppermost aquaponics bed.

Part 3: Tell him you're in no hurry to remove said snake since it eats mice and Rattlesnakes.

Yeah...he's not a happy man.

Lol! I would love to have seen that! I have 6+ foot long black rat snakes in my barn, I move them if they are in the way or in danger of being stepped on, otherwise I leave them alone. In fact, I sometimes catch them outside and put them IN the barn...

We only have the little garter snakes here, no venomous ones at all. There is a larger black snake that hangs out near water but I have not seen those around our place- they even catch fish.

I had a beautiful 6 foot long Black King snake living behind my wood shop. LOVED that guy. While my neighbors continually had issues with Rattlesnakes I didn't see a single one near my home.

Rattlesnakes are definitely on my "Respect Greatly" list. There's only one rattlesnake here, the Massassauga rattler, lives on the Bruce Peninsula, and it's endangered.
