BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I have mint growing by my pond and I can get oregano cheap at the Mexican store in town. My friend said she has been putting garlic and oregano leaves in her water barrel and all the mosquito larva has been dying. I think it wouldn't hurt to try and it might actually help. Herbs are full of good for you stuff. Organic production chicken farms are using oregano in the water rather than antibiotics and I think some commercial feeds are starting to use it as well.

Here's some food for thought, so tuck a sprig of mint on that plate and digest this information..something we've known all along.....

I read that when it first was said. I have both vaccinated and unvaccinated, mostly unvaccinated now only a few vaccinated one's. Have had some unexplained deaths, a few, ironically with the vaccinated one's, looked like marek's to me. Sick birds get removed quick here. Don't know why it was the vaccinated one's that were 'removed', all others great shape. I will no longer ever bring a vaccinated bird into my flock. This is BS, all of us could be greatly affected by dumb decisions from the 'industry' and Govt, IMHO....

Your comment reminded me of last year when DH and children were vaccinated for the flu and I wasn't. Well I guess you can guess which one of us didn't get it, lol. Almost seems like a conspiracy. I've not had many sick chickens. It's a scary thought though. This was the first time I used medicated chick starter. I have a little left but probably will try to buy non-medicated for now on.

yep I am so glad I raise my chickens the old fashioned way before vaccines, bug powder, worming crap, man and chickens have had a relationship for 10,000 years before all this new way of doing it came along, how in the word did chickens manage to live with man for that long without the chemical folks?????

@oshun55555 I'd be very interested in hearing about your experience with the Dixie Rainbows.
I will be processing some First and second generation Rainbows in a week and a half and will keep you posted on how they turn out. They forage like any chicken, are super friendly, the Cock birds don't crow much and I was afraid they would not be able to do their business with the girls, they just seemed too gentle for such massive birds. The hens lay extra large eggs, Will keep you posted.

Thanks! They sound very interesting. When I saw them in the Murray McMurray catalogue, I was intrigued, and I'm a bit surprised that there's not many postings about them.
