BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I'm planning to beg and plead with @Beer can to sell me some WJG hatching eggs this spring to give them a try out here in our hostile desert. Knowing me, I'll be crossing them with my NN, but I'll allow them to remain pure for at least one summer to see how they handle the heat. I know we don't get quite as hot as you do down here in Pima county, but it'll be pretty close. If you don't make the plunge yourself, I'll be sure to give you feedback on my own experiences.

Maybe you could keep them pure enough for me to get some hatching eggs from you later?

Despurred my first rooster (Dumbledore, my oldest) this evening (used the plier method, which takes the hard part off and leaves the quick). Not supposed to bleed much. Yeah, right.

It was easy and straightforward, but I had a cuddle session with Dumbledore while waiting for his soft "quick" spurs to stop oozing enough for him to go to roost. I have styptic powder, but I've misplaced it.

Used flour, and just ordered more styptic...

He's a good boy - he was hero to the flock protecting them all from a pack of terriers who came into the yard (almost dying in the process), and will always have Hero status for that. I don't handle him much at all, but we had a nice chat and cuddle tonight, once I caught him.

Speaking of which...

I have some chickens whose nails and beaks look great without any trimming, and others who have nails that are too long and must be clipped (not too bad in beaks). Same coop, same conditions. Any thoughts? Thanks to @Turk Raphael , I started paying attention to the nails (glad I did!!!). For instance, under the identical conditions, the Cream Legbars get long nails while the other breed chickens do not...

TBH I think it genetics, I have a five year old rooster due his yearly spur trim just need to locate the dog nail trimmers. His get a inch to two inches long and needle points!

For those of you who are considering turkeys I would get some for sure! They are beautiful birds and lay many eggs in the spring and summer that i prefer over chicken eggs. And who cant resist the looks of a beautiful tom strutting around?

Maybe some pics will seal the deal for some of you
