BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

So, but no road trips for me. We also own a business and between the farm and the business, free time is something I only hear about from others.

If you get a bird right after it dies of heat stroke then it's no big deal, but the longer an animal lay dead before you can process it, the greater the chances of tainted meat. The last Biel girl I had die of heat stroke was already in full rigor by the time we got home and I found her. There's no way I'm eating that.
What exactly is the meat "tainted" by?

Also, sorry to pick brains, but when we butcher our meats, there has been a few times my hubby was quicker than I and we had 3 birds strung up to bleed out, while im still finishing up the defeather of 1. So does that matter too? Because the meat came out fine, birds all tasted great, that I can remember.

Nope that doesn't matter. I just prefer to kill them when I'm ready to start plucking another so their feathers aren't so tough to pull out.

@Desert Chick Your SGD Flock, what exactly is that breed, or is that an acronym to what you named the group? BTW they are all very stunning little chickies!

I keep my incubator running with 35-40% during the first 18 days and after that I jack it up to 70-80% humidity. I run mine at 99-100 degrees the whole time. I assume FAF had a typo with the 110 degrees? Maybe not. Mine usually die if they get that hot! Lol. I just pour water into my incubator and only fill one valley and the humidity stays steady the whole time.

What type of incubator are you using right now?
I have the Farm Innovators 4250, has coil heater, fan, digital gauge, egg turner and a candler light! well thats what it came with...

I would set up another digital Hygrometer and Tenp gauge inside the incubator. I never trust the ones that come with the incubator... But I am always scared my tenp is too high or too low... I might be crazy lol!

Thats is what we try to do, but I guess my husband got ahead of himself. Usually what we do is bleed one, I take it to defeather, then while I am de feathering, he is bleeding another, so then I take the defeathered bird to him for removal of innards while I grab the freshly bled one and take to defeather and string up another to bleed....
