BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Been warm hot and sticky here the last few days, 85ish. Had some cool nights, could see my breath the other night, checked temp, 46!

That's what I call a delicious night!

The only place we heat is the summer kitchen and then only because that's where we keep our brooders and we use heat lamps for their heat.

Someone asked for suggestions and breed experiences last week. Quoting would help give context.

Indeed. I generally try to quote the most relevant post to the subject at hand, rather than using multiple quotes. At least the folks have a general idea who or what is being addressed.

That sounds heavenly! I went to an event today, road rally, and it was 100* and I had to run the heater because my car was overheating - even though I hadn't been running the A/C at all. I swear my clothes weighed 20 lbs with all the sweat when I finally got them off.

Thank you,all.
We've decided our exiled 18 month old Silky Roo will be returned to flock. We will keep one of the IcelanderXAmeraucanaX Roos, and, hope he mellows .
Our chicken house was built for a 2 room grain/tack room building. It is comparable to the chicken house on our farm, where we had chickens for 20 yrs.
We do use a light cycle in winter and heating in extreme cold. We are set up for minimal labor; and have a handyman, on call, for the heavy lifting. Our run is 40 by 60, with an adjoining 2+ acres of mixed, open woodlands for ranging.
The chickens are purely for enjoyment!
Regards

ShaVirginia, Who can possibly dictate breed when you have raised chickens for over 20 years? I assume you are carrying on family heritage and are relatively new to it yourself. This is our 4th year with many different breeds of chickens and we are just now starting to settle in on a couple of selected breeds. Outcrossing and crossbreeding to attain a reasonable utility breed is our main goal. Yes it is a hobby but also an enjoyment requiring lots of work! Stick with your ambitions and have fun!

Thank you for your response. At 78, I have been away from chickens a long time; except the recent buys in past year.
The extra roos went off to a local men's mission, where they will enrich the menu.
Regards

I made it till 11am at work.we are putting pipe in a running coker unit at Exxon Mobil. The material runs at an average of 900 degrees. Where I was was 120. Combination of heat and medication put me down and out
