BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I am kind of snickering in wonder over hatching eggs. Kind of curious how the poultry manufacturers produce so many chickens yearly and how they hatch out their birds.

They gotta have a mass amount of breeders to feed the world!

A really tough weekend looming for about 4 people on this farm...I may help. Just like chickens, rabbits can very quickly cover you up, just like 'TRIBBLES'. Jason, Ariel and friends/employees, Betty and Sara will be doing the honors.

Ron, some of my friends on another thread have come close to the one year mark.Real close. And at least one of them has a second generation, Cx hybrid? That is growing into a beautiful hen.

Has anyone thought about hooding a chicken to keep it calm when you caponize it

That certainly never crossed my mind...I want them to have access to all oxygen available.

EDIT: There's a thought...an oxygen delivery device or set up, under a hood? I just don't know.

We put a handknit cotton washcloth over their heads if they are overly nervous. Hubby's job is to keep the birds calm while I operate ... it helps.

Under certain conditions (although I was joking at first), like hot weather etc, a baby sock, fitted loosely over the head with a cannula sending .5 liters of pure oxygen????? If Ariel sees this, she will certainly try it. I may have to mis-mark the acetylene tank to discourage her...
