BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Fwiw, you can cut waste by feeding your feed moist rather than dry. Of course, it isn't pre-digested or full of probiotics, but they can't bill it out as easily as dry.

I haven't noticed a problem with flies. I usually feed just enough for one day, perhaps the birds gobble any slow, stupid flies before I notice.
I discussed this with someone today. They used to do it.

I just can't see myself leaving the residue on the feeders from day to day.

My comment about the flies was in jest as much as any.

I was telling someone today. I am going to trial it three ways. A dry pen, wet pen, and fermented pen. Side by side. Related birds, same age, same pen arraignments, and in the same location. Same feed, just prepare differently. I will see for myself this year. I am curious to see if their is any measurable differences.

Let's take a look at this..."gooey ghoulies" or chopped, pressed and molded ham (or mystery meat) that's too salty for human consumption ...Which would my chickens be better off eating??????? Such a hard question!!!

All kidding aside Karen, if you just can't bring yourself to throw it away, give it to a neighbor.

Well do you think it would be too salty to feed the birds? I don't know how much salt birds can

handle before it becomes an issue. And I proudly stand by my no gooey ghoulies for birds philosophy.

So from whom did you get the Florida White rabbits? And what does your avatar think of being

upstaged by some fancy dancy show bunnies?

Best,

Karen

Has anyone used this in their poultry feed regimen? If so, how and at what ratio?

Pretty much the only things I pilfer from the horses are waste hay, alfalfa or timothy pellets or cubes (moistened), was feeding bio moss and yeasacc as pre and pro biotics, but have switched to fermented grains, flax seed. I do not want their vitamin supplement. Too much worry about them getting stuff in quantities they don't need. Check the tag. Most of those feeds have soy added. You may or may not want it. I don't. I don't care about corn, but I don't want soy. Don't like Purina Equine products.

When I feed waste hay and pellets or cubes its usually in the winter. Alfalfa tends to run at 15% protein and is fairly high in calcium and D vitamins. Its part of my ulcer management program for several horses. Problem is that its not usually put up as horse hay, but cow hay. That means a lot of it is too moldy to feed to the horses. I let the hens pick thru it. Not appropriate for young stock since I worry about the calcium if they develop a taste for it and gorge.

I would think Calf Manna might be easier to feed???? I've not used it, but its easy to get in a 10 lb bucket. A little goes a long way.

What are you trying to accomplish with the horse feed?

Show Bunnies? No. These are part of our food 'on-the-hoof. Not sure she want's her name given out but she lives neat Toledo Ohio and wins when she shows. That alone will tell anyone who knows Florida Whites, pretty well who the breeder is.

We will be eating some of the offspring of the Florida Whites but the primary source of our rabbit meat will come from the hybrid FWs X NZ Whites.

Sorry...if you do boil the hell out of it, you could add it to their regular grub over a period of a few days without causing any problems. Too much at one time might scour the birds.

I don't know what I want to accomplish. I just heard about and wondered if anyone was using it.

Sounds like I'll pass. Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't feed it to chickens at all. Too much fat and too much sugar. It's ok for horses to trot...don't want my birds doing it, especially with filthy bottoms.

I guarantee you 100%....it will scour your birds. You can buy a premium feed designed for chickens for about $2 bucks less.

Yup, been checking around. I think I want FW ex NZ too. Seems like the best of both worlds unless one has

straight FW which ( I have read ) are arguably better than the cross. I have a line on some here in PA within

driving distance. I love Rabbit. When I was young, my Mom used to make it all the time. She is a Midwest

grocer's daughter. She made Maryland Rabbit. So delicious! Baked rabbit drowned in rich cream drippings gravy.

I love it so. Rabbit is ridiculous in the stores now so I decided since it's only a 4 month grow out to table,

why not! If I keep the FW's pure, I should be able to sell the babies for enough to cover expenses. well, you know what they cost!

Ok, I will pass. I was just wondering. I read about it and wondered if it was an option. Guess now I know...not!
