I thought you said they handled the heat poorly - did you decide to keep them after all?

They've been crossed with a more heat tolerant cockerel...I think. Both my largest NN and my Ameraucan mix were mating pretty aggressively with them....though my big Biel got to at least one of them too. I'll know more when they hatch. But, I've also been making housing changes and have figured out a few other techniques to keep them cooler.

@DesertChic there's a recipe I'll have to try. I've never done lemon with chicken, and that sauce sounds interesting. Definitely going to give it a try, something different. Think I'll try it on the fat manx rumpy pullet I still have in the freezer.

I used a tropical fruit Sangria the first time I made it and it was fantastic!

Those are amazing. Was one a pullet the other a cockerel? Or is there just a lot of variability in the size with that cross? I just noticed that they weigh the same although one is more than 10 weeks older.

Both Cockerels. The cross does net some variance in size, mostly the cockerels are running 10 to 12 pounds. Pullets 7 to 8 pounds

Yeahhhhhhh............too cold here for the turkeys yet.. Popsicle eggs are not fun, except to crack open and cook..... the buckeyes are laying, and I have the incubator almost ready to heat up!!!!!

Hmmm me thinks tomorrow is a good day for a turkey dinner, FRESH turkey dinner.

Those turkey eggs were good! But I got 3 more yesterday and they are sitting here waiting for friends to join them. I wish the other 4 hens would get busy. How was dinner?

Question (s):

Will a hen seek out a rooster on her own?

if so? can't a trap nest idea be adapted to trap the hen in with the roo in his contained area? so you know who she mated with?

two roosters in contained areas, hens in area outside their separate pens, they trap themselves into their preferred rooster area to be mated????

what thoughts have you?

remember you heard it here first! lol
