BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Im from Europe, Latvia.

First, welcome to this thread. You live in a beautiful country.

You are correct to consider the hen's weight. You are better for getting a large egg from a lighter bird. You are putting more feed into the eggs rather than body and feather maintenance.

Generally, the sex linked laying strains will be lighter and lay better. I am not certain what you have access too there. Here we have large hatcheries where we can purchase birds that could supply large commercial operations. We can purchase many strains of sex links that are all a little different concerning performance.

Does the color of the egg matter to the people there? Who are the suppliers of birds in your area?

I found out from Luanne ... now, where is Candid Camera when we need them? I just wish I could see y'all's faces when you get a look at what Luanne calls her "utility line" BRs.
Yes, going to pick up from her and looking forward to it. I hope her BR cock birds are huge. Already told my wife they could be as tall as her waist, LOL. Really looking forward to seeing her Delaware lines. Should be fun!

You're joking, but my friend was picking up catfish in her pasture during all that rain.

That's great! I love cat fish and that is one way to find a bit of pink lining to all those darned clouds.

I bet we got 3inchs of rain yesterday

I'm sure it wasn't very welcome. I think california will get their rain at some point and it will rain so much, they will curse it because of the mud slides. That is one state that has all the good luck and most of the bad luck. I wouldn't even visit that place, much less live there.

West Virginia is often called a 'Fly-Over State' and that's fine with me. Far too many people on the East Coast has found out how good we have it already.

I've been to WV. I thought it was beutiful. I've also been to California and found that I DID NOT like it nor the people.Besides the ground moves.Ground is only supposed to move when your drunk!!
