Those Catahoula are a lot like this Tennessee brindle mountain cur I ended up with as a pup at a shelter. He was supposed to have been a boxer mastiff mix, NOT! He is so high strung it isn't funny. Had him in the house forthe first yr. Brought him in this winter when it was -25 windchill, lasted two days, up all night pacing and whining loud. I think he prefers to be outside. I have him tied up next to the chicken coop, no predator problems anymore. I don't trust him with the chickens though lol. Thought about training him on racoons, have friends that coon hunt with English redtics. I don't eat coons though, and it doesn't appeal to me anyway. He goes bezeark bonkers over squirrels running through the trees. I've never hunted squirrel with a dog but I've hunted rabbits with beagles for yrs. Watched some YouTube vids on squirrel hunting with dogs, looks like fun, and I will eat squirrel lol!

I've broken that rule then. Chicken Little was mighty tasty after he decided to try and kill us all the time. And others wind up being called things like Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Supper, etc.

Hey guys. How long has my computer been messed up? 6 - 8 10 mos? Never could get the big virus off. Sooo I've had it totally wiped. $75 to get a practically new one. Of course, all the downloaded info on gardening and chickens is GONE. I'll just start over.,

Aimee, my DD, is a dog groomer and also boards. For boarding the mom and six 2.5 mo old pups for ten days, she had her choice. A $1500 dog. Happy!!! Jade was the runt so probably will only get to 135-140 lbs. Lol. She's over 25 or so lbs already.

In just another detour...I got more chicks today...18 White Rocks ans 20 NNs...Supposed to be all pullets. The NNs were hand picked, something I'll talk about a bit later and the White Rocks really please me too!!! They have very large heads, indicative of large bodies. I know, I know....some will think that sounds crazy but it does work out. It was the same with the White Chanteclers (the ONLY legit color, in my opinion)...Most of them had very large heads too.

When the chicks are 3 to 5 or 6 days old...look directly down on the tops of their heads from the rear. If you can't see their eyeballs, that indicates large head and large bird follows. Just try it sometime and see.

You just had to issue another challenge didn't you?

Now I'm going to be waiting impatiently to hatch more chicks just so I can try this out.

I was going to do s breeding project with ayem cemani naked neck crosses, culls from someone who only wanted the NN ones. Didn't work out bad hatches, she ended up with some fibro (black meat) NN but only one non NN fibro pullet and the non NN cockerels were not fibro.
So I got six white silkies also fibro from TSC in Feb. The hatchery they get theirs from, well they are not SOP, poor crests and they run larger than they're supposed to, which is great for my plans. I will be putting a white jersey giant pullet in with them and back breed for fibro and silkie feathering. Hopefully for some giant fibro silkies. I already have the cockerel picked out, have two one is twice the size of the other, and at 16weeks has 1/4 spurs and huge feet. He's big and meaty, I'm going to check his weight out of curiosity, he looks and feels as big as my EE and welsummer hens, but I will weigh him just to see for sure.
Crazy plan I know, but I don't have any other hobbies besides brewing beer Lol!

I'm butchering my two Silkie cockerels either this weekend or the next and will be making soup from them. (They're too old for roasting.) Maybe they'll cure all my aches and pains.
