Oui! I have a juvenile bielefelder hen of about 4 - 5 months old that just went broody on my other birds eggs! She hasnt even laid her own first egg yet. How can that be?

She decided to adopt.

Her body says it is time to go. She is certainly on the extreme end of things, but maybe her extreme characteristics will mean that she will be a good setter for you. I would give her some eggs and see if she will commit.

Bad news! The so called bielefelder broody was found on the floor injured and unable to walk. We have no clue what happened to her. I leave my girlfriend alone for a few days and now this! Definitely not her fault but the fact is I'm not there to help out. 5 eggs were in the nesting box so another bird had to at some point be in there laying with her. I can only assume she got kicked out and injured herself. The almighty pecking order!

Let me first say...I'm joking!!! But, it seems the females of all species are the more dangerous...cyclically. That's why I have a female lawyer.

I always told my son that same thing. "Guys will get into a fist fight, and then end the night by getting a drink together and acting like old friend. Girls....we give each other lifelong eating disorders."

I butchered another Bielefelder cockerel together. What a difference from the first one! His frame was so tight that I had a hard time getting my hand inside to pull out the guts. And even though he received the same feed as the first one, this guy was LOADED with fat. By the time I was done he only processed out to 3.468 lbs even though his start weight was heavier than the last one. Gheesh!

I'm still learning from every single bird I process....and I'm FINALLY becoming more efficient at it. Pretty soon I'll have to start hatching more chicks.
