Does anyone feed the their freezer chickens to their dogs? A la raw diet for canines?

yes, we feed them our culls when the carcasses are so poor I don't want to fool with making stock from them. Surprisingly, the LGD that is most protective of the chickens will not eat them while they are fresh, but LOVES any eggs she can find. The LGDs that only guard the chickens which stay "in territory" will gobble up a culled chicken lickety-split.

I don't have backyard chickens, but I am planning on quail, and yes, I feed my dog and 6 cats raw chicken. I buy a 10lb bag of leg quarters and feed them to the cats and dog raw, bones and all. It's actually really good for them. I have one cat that all his life (he's 5 months old) had varrying stages of runny poo but as soon as I put them on the chicken and he figured out how to eat it (the leg quarter was as big as him when I first started) he hasn't had the runs anymore except for a few times I ran out of chicken and had to give them cat food just to get something in their bellys and then I had to go mop the floors again...

That's one way to get rid of cats. Ha ha.

The ones in icu are still alive, a couple I really doubt are going to make it to morning. Here are some pics of those that made it to the brooder, a couple aren't pictured since their pics turned out blurry. Taking pics of hours old chicks isn't really easy! lol




These two came out feathered, my two roos aren't double gened and a several of my hen aren't double gened so this is always a possibility, at least one looks bearded though.

If you are worried about the bones, I believe uncooked bones are fine for dogs. I have not given mine any from the freezer but I have given then whole chickens that died from predator attacks, feathers, guts and all. They tend to bury them and come back for them later after they have had a chance to "ripen". Gross, I know, but they lick their own butts so who am i to judge a dogs taste...lol.

Actually, cooked bones are dangerous for dogs to chew on since they're more likely to splinter and then get lodged in the dog's intestines.

I feed my dogs the raw organ meat as I process the chickens. There's a lot of nutrition in those organs and the dogs love it. The meat itself I usually feed to them boiled, but there's not doubt in my mind that they would love fresh chicken meat. Whether or not it would be harmful to them I don't know. I doubt it, but I'm not a vet.

My Austra White chicks have arrived! I ordered 15, got 13 healthy chicks, 1 dead chick, and the last one is mysteriously absent. I emailed Cackle Hatchery to warn them they may have a little rogue cockerel running around, planning to grow up and mate with all of their various breeder hens.

I still only have two the next one is due to hatch today or tomarrow or any day soon after that as some eggs just come a little late but I am not sure what u mean by Horton get my peep fix thru someone else like u

I haven't heard back from them yet because I messed up their email address....twice.

Honestly I'm really not concerned about the cost of two chicks. If they offer to refund the difference it will simply increase my regard for them as a company, but I'm so relieved to have 13 healthy little chicks that made it here all the way from Missouri that I'm practically giddy.

Yes I had one egg that made it so far to hatching but it was the same size as the other babys but I opened it because of what day it was and it was the same size and it looked as if it were to have died the day before the other one hatched and It didn't look deformed or anything so I just wish I would have helped it earlier before it died especially as far as it has made it I am wondering if it just couldn't get through the air cell because that egg looked like it was having a hard time getting through and couldn't breath or something so I wish I could have saved it
