BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

With hatcheries I'm not sure price makes a ton a difference in quality... I have gotten birds (never meat birds mind you) from Cackle, Ideal, Privett (where Welp drop ships from), and McMurray. All were fine, but not much difference in quality, overall. (Certainly a certain hatchery may have better quality of a certain breed, say, Rhode Island Red than another, but I am talking about overall quality on all breeds.) I got a small group of EEs from Cackle this spring and had a couple issues with genetics - bum legs and crossed beaks. Maybe this was abnormal, I wouldn't judge based on one order, but I ordered far more chicks from Ideal (at a much cheaper price), and had no genetic issues. I think with hatcheries it's mostly luck of the draw.

@abbevilleoz From what I have read Central is different than most hatcheries and owns all their own flocks on site, which is unusual for a hatchery. I think many hatcheries farm certain/all breeds out to sub contacted farms. Also, FYI, I am not sure what you were looking at with Welp, but they are almost twice the price as Central, about $150 for 100 birds compared to $95 for 100 from Central.

I misled myself on the pricing and you're right. I only want 25 birds for my trial run. Central's minimum order is 50. I can order 25 from Welp for $45 ish if I read their mobile app correctly.

Cackle has actually updated their EE page, last I checked and acknowledged that their EE's do have issues with crossed beaks. I was pretty disappointed to find that AFTER I had already ordered a mixed box from them.

Cackle also carries true Ameraucanas from one of the top breeders in the US. I also like that they post videos of all their breeding stock on their YouTube channel.

The crossbeak issues are in the "EE" breed period, not just Cackles. It is something that just pops up in them.
