BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

I got a few pics of Tank 1 and Tank 2 today, my two as yet stingy (egg wise) cross gals. I also weighed them, but I don't have as accurate a scale as digital. Tank 1 was between 14 and 15 lbs, Tank 2 was just a hair over 10. They hatched on May 1 of this year and are very active still.

I have a question. When I see posts of people keeping the CX alive to mature ages it is always females, has anyone ever got a boy to a mature age?

I just realized I don't think I'd ever really shown off my Wheaten Cockerel here. I brought him in the shed this morning to weight him. 3lbs. I purchased him at 12 weeks from a nice woman in Virginia. He's more than likely headed to the freezer by the end of the weekend. I think I've had about enough of his frenzied behavior (especially when everyone else seems to be so gentle and docile...)

He's pretty, but I totally understand. I can't stand nervous, flighty chickens. They seem to keep all of the other birds in a constant state of stress. I actually just turned down an offer for two free RIR roosters that were offered to me for "whatever I want to do with them" because of this. I don't have time in the next couple weeks to do any butchering and really didn't want to deal with someone else's problem birds during the interim.

Been a while since I post heh ^^; atm we had to sell off 10+ roosters to a person we know that wanted lawn ordaments for their workshop. The main focus for meat is silkies to sell which leads me yo ask; as anyone order purely poultry " broiler silkies"? We are thinking about it but curious if anyone else has.

Yeah, a little after I posted these pictures, he got loose in the shed and went after my house-hen (my Serama from my high school days...). She is fine but long story short, I drove him down to the live poultry processor ten minutes from us, had him process him for $3 and he'll be dinner tonight. I reached my limit with him.

There was one on another thread that lived to 11 months I think? Old enough to breed some hens and have chicks. He was apparently over 15 pounds and the size of the guys turkeys.... He jumped off of something about a foot off the ground one day, gave himself bumblefoot and died because of the infection and the weight he gained when he wasn't as active.
