Breeding for specific color and patterns of feathers

I know it would be a lengthy project but, am interested in the best plan to breed a chicken that resembles the colors and patterns of a BLRW but, lays a "blue" egg, rather than a green egg. Would it be best to use a BLRW crossed with a white egg layer until the offsprings eggs are basically white then, cross breed the best blue red laced ones to a blue egg gene chicken or work on egg colors while working on feather color/pattern, etc???? I was referred to this group by someone that said, a member of this group was already working on something similar, with silver laced chickens.

Eh, tomato potato. Both breeds are pretty and fluffy
