breeding hens chickens to lay fertile eggs, and I have the dumbest question to ask --

I am new to raising chickens to lay fertile eggs, and I have the dumbest question to ask -- one person told me that it doesn't matter if the rooster is the "brother" of the hens and another told me that I must have a rooster from a entirely different flock to breed. Now my question is -- which persons advice do I follow. I know you cannot interbreed most animals so ... Thanks for any advice !

It would be better to breed back to mom or dad than to siblings but the best would be an unrelated bird that has the traits you want.
