Breeding offspring

Is it safe or should I say wise to breed the father to a daughter? I am looking for someone to trade with on a another tread, but thought I may consider this if it is safe and in general a common practice. I do not want any oddities or bad personalities from my birds. The mating pair I do have are well but I am looking to expand a little.

Any thoughts are most welcome.

That's line-breeding, and it's an excellent way to find out what the genetics of the parent stock are (if the father has a recessive gene and his pullets get that recessive gene, then breeding them together will sometimes show that recessive gene--a lot of professional breeders do this to test their stock.) My uncle raises show goats and he does breed fathers to daughters, but no closer.

Chickens have a lot more chromosomes than humans do, so there's less chance of seeing the problems that crop up in mammals when inbreeding.

Thank you. Maybe I'll try it for this one hen and see what happens. It may be difficult though, the eggs from the mother will probably be mixed with her's.
