Breeding Pens/Cages

Here is a design that I created - easy to construct (often out of leftover materials), easy to clean out because of the flip top, and both a protected enclosure as well as a run area. You can incorporate a small nest and roost if you like.

The basic size (as I use this for bantams) is 2 feet x 2 feet x 4 feet with an actual height of 36 inches at the tallest part of the coop section. The floor of the housing is solid and the run has a wire mesh floor so the droppings can fall through. It is portable enough to allow for placing it on grassy areas or can be placed on a stand for an easier height to work with. In extremely cold climates, it can be moved into a shed or barn for extra protection from the elements. It has been predator proof for me and the side door as well as the flip top access make it a breeze to work with.

It is excellent for breeder pairs or trios but also makes a perfect location for a broody hen - both before and after she hatches her chicks.

the birds live in those pens you can let them out other whise they fight or mix with other birds

Thanks to you both for posting these pics. Canepole, I have a crate coop that looks just like yours. I'm wondering how long do you leave them in there? Do you let them out into their own enclosed outside pen? Or can you let them free range with the rest of your birds?

The doors are 2' x 5' for easy access. Go to my farm page shown below, and click on pictures and it will show some pictures of a 6x14 being constructed.
Thanks
