Breeding polish bantam with frizzle cochin bantam

I would like to attempt to breed a "polish frizzle" of some sort. I have read every thread I could find on this site and googled extensively about creating a polish frizzle. I'm under the impression you breed a frizzle cochin with a polish, and then keep breeding any frizzled offspring from that back with polish (looking for a decent sized crest). I read it's kind of difficult to get the polish features to over-ride cochin genes and it takes several generations and luck. Am I correct? I also read it is a no-no to breed 2 frizzles together. I realize not all frizzle offspring will be frizzled. I assume it doesn't matter if you use a frizzle hen or rooster for the task, and I assume no color is more successful than another? I couldn't find much info on how to get a polish frizzle by breeding. Anyone have any insight on this? How hard is it to get a frizzle/polish combo. Did any of you have any luck doing this? (pics?) Or am I completely wrong in how to approach this? Would adding silkie genes to the mix be a complete disaster or be helpful? Thx!

Frizzle is dominant, so if they get one copy then they are frizzled. It doesn't matter which gender you use, it's not a sex linked gene. And yes, you don't want to breed frizzled birds together.

This has already been done though, so it would be a lot easier for you to buy some that already exist than try to start over.

Yes, agree 100% with Pyxis; trying to breed toward the Polish type from Cochin stock will be so difficult. You'll need to breed out the feathery legs and poofy feathering of the Cochin whilst trying to keep the big hair-do, duplex comb, slate legs, light body-shape of the Polish. Adding Silkie genes would actually make things worse, as then you'd have hookless, fibro, polydactyly, rose and pea combs as well as the feathered legs and body-shape to breed out. Much better to start with a frizzled Polish and go from there; all you really need is a cockerel, since as you already know, frizzled birds should always be bred to smooth.

thanks! That's good to know. I searched for frizzled polish and couldn't find any. Looked at the link but it's for eggs. I'm wary of ordering eggs online. I'm not worried about it being an exact polish frizzle. Was just looking for unique looks, as long as health isn't an issue.
