Breeding Program and Age of Hen's Before Retirement

It will really depend upon the breed. If the hen is healthy in good care I would say it will last 4 years. In long lived or heritage breeds I would say 5 to 6 years. In breeds built to grow fast and then be butchered or lay astronomical numbers of eggs I would say 2 to 3 years.

I was thinking 3-4 years as well (for a heritage breed). Does anyone know if there is documented studies of something like this?
