Breeding question for easter eggers out there

So now I have a barred rock pullet chick and a barred rock cockerel chick ( by choice )My Easter Eggars are too young stillto sex but I have a suspicion that at least one of my six might be a cockerel. If my barred rock mates with my eggers will they still lay colored eggs or would they default to brown eggs like the barreds. I know nothing of breeding chickens this is my first time having them Or should I wait it out see if I have a boy Egger and rid of the barred, because I really like the way barred rock roosters look.

It depends on what the father of the Easter Egger is. If he was a pure ameraucana, good chance you get green laying easter Eggers from the EE roo/ barred rock hen. If the EE has EE parents, it is harder to tell the egg color of the resulting chicks. A lot of times EE are already Carrington at least 1 brown egg gene which in the odds game gives you 3 brown egg genes and at best 1 blue egg gene.

I messed up in my 1st post. If either parent of your EE was a true americauna then you have a better chance for green eggs, not just the father.

If you have an Easter Egger rooster, you can produce sexlinked chicks with the Barred Rock hens. Your Easter Eggers will not change the color they lay, regardless of the rooster breeding them. There is no way to be absolutely certain what color the offspring will lay though. However, the pea comb gene is usually inherited with the blue shell gene.

oh ok then. That was my question wether the egg color changed or not. It is gonna be a hard decision to make if I get 2 Roos out of this bunch. I'm sure both will be beautiful. Just gotta play the waiting game then. Thank you!
