So about a month ago me and my dad drove to our local Bomgaars (Farming Store; it used to be an Orscheln's) and picked ourselves up 6 Easter Egger chicks and 3 Barred Rock chicks.
It's been a few weeks now and the chicks are doing great, but we noticed something about the supposed "Easter Eggers".
Our chicks looked nothing like the Easter Egger chicks we had seen online, and we were starting to wonder if there even was a breed just called "Easter Egger".
We eventually looked it up and came to a horrifying and saddening conclusion.
The "Easter Eggers" they had sold us were in fact not Easter Eggers, but MALE GOLDEN COMETS. We had bought ourselves some Golden Comets the year before and were very pleased to see they all turned out to be girls and very prolific layers, but we did not need any more roosters.
Looking back on it, the picture they had up for the "Easter Egger" chicks wasn't even an adult Easter Egger, but some other random bread that I don't know the name of.
SO, instead of getting our beautiful Easter Egging hens, it looks like we've got 6 Golden Comet roosters, which does us NO GOOD AT ALL.

The moral of the story?

ONLY BUY CHICKS FROM TRUSTED HATCHERIES!

Oh and...maybe do some research before you buy them...

I am very salty about this whole thing - D13

Sorry to hear this. :(,,,,, I will offer you my view/opinion.
You have to consider the reality, that us humans are very capable of making mistakes. That also includes the peeps working in Bomgaars.
As well as the peeps that delivered the chicks from whatever hatchery they came from.
I really don't think you were purposely scammed.:hugs
If I was in your position,, I would return to the store and tell them what happened. They may refund you your money. I doubt they would want the cockerels returned,, but do bring them with.
Maybe they would offer you 6 pullets of whatever they may have in stock.
I know that we're are in chaotic times with soo many peeps getting chicks. This will all pass, in time, but currently it is HEAVY DUTY full speed ahead.
I know that I would be very upset, just like you,,, getting male chicks. In my case,, roosters are not allowed, so a double whammy :hit What will I do now.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

Are you sure that they are all males? If you post some pictures the knowledgeable people on here may be able to help you figure it out.
That is something that I probably shoulda mentioned, sorry.

We don't know for sure, but the chicks do seem to feature many Golden Comet cockerel features.
The tail feathers have the rooster look to them, and the chicks were a much lighter color (For those who don't know: Golden Comets are a sex-link breed, meaning they can be told apart at birth) which means male in the Golden Comet world.

Though they are bred for this, it can still be a little iffy, so I will try to post pictures of them for identification in another forum soon.

I would like to mention that I have no hard feelings of any kind towards the employees, as they probably didn't know any better.
We probably will try to talk to the store about it, though we may not even need replacements now that our Cochin hen is broody (I plan on starting a hatch-along soon).

Thank you for your kind words - D13
